Mystic Museum: Ben Cooper and Slashback Video Exhibits
Play Video

This video features the Mystic Museum in Burbank, California.  It contains a nice selection of c1960-80s Ben Cooper Halloween costumes and vintage Halloween collectibles.  Some images may be disturbing to viewers and we try our best to avoid grotesque and/or death images. Please refrain from viewing this video if you feel these images may be offensive to you. Overall, it is an artistic presentation of Halloween vintage despite the few aforementioned.  We prefer to conjure images of candy trick or treating, apple bobbing, costume parties and other aspects of Halloween merriment, less the demonic aspect.

Ben Cooper was an American company well-known for its Halloween costumes.  In business from 1937 to 1992, they competed with Collegeville Costume Co. and H. Halpern Co. (Halco).  Ben Cooper was known as the "High Priest of Halloween."  The company made colorful masks depicting scary monsters, iconic figures, popular TV actors, cartoons and the like. These costumes have made their way into American pop culture.  They are the focus of interest among Halloween enthusiasts and highly coveted by collectors.  Several Ben Cooper designs are featured in "Dressed for Thrills: 100 Years of Halloween Costumes & Masquerade."  This  book was written and photographed by Phyllis Galembo.  It is available for purchase in our online book shop.

ABANDONED COSTUME FACTORY: Halloween Mask Found!

This fun video starts with a brief history of Collegeville Costume Company. Originating in 1926, Collegeville was an iconic costume company, quite popular from the 1950s to 1980s.  They closed their doors in 1996. The author's focus of this video concentrated on the now defunct company's abandoned building. Although not of particular interest to us, we thought it fun to include...don't be scared if your mind starts to play tricks on you!
